Now Accepting Applications | Cohort Begins January 26
The Groundwork Indy Project Management and Apprenticeship Curriculum is a 12-week workforce development program designed to prepare young adults ages 18 to 30 for careers in the skilled trades and construction-adjacent fields. The program combines hands-on carpentry training, OSHA-aligned safety education, and introductory project management principles in a structured, supportive learning environment.
This curriculum was built in collaboration with industry professionals and aligned with the expectations of the Carpenters Union pre-apprenticeship pathway. The program emphasizes quality training, professional readiness, and student success.
Applications are now open. The next cohort begins January 26.

What This Program Offers
Participants engage in a rigorous training experience that includes:
• Foundational jobsite safety and tool respect
• Measuring, marking, and layout skills
• Hands-on hand tool training
• OSHA 10 Construction online completion during the cohort
• Project management fundamentals inspired by PMP best practices
• Daily skill reinforcement and evaluation
• A capstone carpentry project demonstrating mastery
Students attend either morning or evening sessions for two hours, twice per week. The schedule is designed to support participants who may be working or managing other responsibilities.
Articulation With the Carpenters Union
Groundwork Indy has established an articulation pathway aligned with the Carpenters Union pre-apprenticeship standards. This pathway helps ensure that students understand industry expectations and are prepared for next steps in the trades.
At the conclusion of the program, students are evaluated using a competency framework that considers:
• Attendance and participation
• Safety practices
• Tool competency
• Quality of work
• Professional behavior
Students who demonstrate the highest level of readiness may be recommended for conversation with Carpenters Union representatives. Participation in the program does not guarantee placement or apprenticeship acceptance. All decisions related to interviews, enrollment, and timing remain at the discretion of the Union.
This process ensures fairness, transparency, and alignment with professional standards.
Project Management and Career Readiness
In addition to technical training, students complete a project management module that builds transferable skills applicable across industries. Participants learn how to plan tasks, manage time, communicate progress, work in teams, and take ownership of outcomes.
These skills support success in the trades as well as in construction management, facilities, and other workforce pathways.
A Student Centered Program With Industry Oversight
The program is supported by an Advisory Council made up of professionals from the trades, workforce development, education, safety, and project management fields. This council helps ensure the program maintains high standards, remains effective, and continues to evolve based on student feedback and industry needs.
